To Help You Get By
New stuff on
writerrabbit, but it's not very good.
Work was work. I somehow managed to slay the toppling stack of books yesterday, so today I can focus on straightening up the duplicates and filling Internet orders. They've hired a carpenter to make more bookshelves in the duplicates section *and* out in the store proper, so we'll have a bit more room to move around with. God knows we could sure use it.
So, Native American duplicates are going to move, and probably Antiques + Collectibles, Crafts and the like. Yes, sir, another fun day for the Bookshop! I plan to celebrate any progress I make with lots of coffee and cookies.
This weekend was actually pretty fun. I got to muck about a bit online and on Sunday I went to Eureka Springs, Arkansas, which is quickly growing into my absolute favorite place to be. If you haven't been to Eureka Springs, Arkansas (and I can only assume most of you haven't), it's pretty much a mountain tourist town, that makes its living by being old-timey and severely eclectic. The great thing about it, though, is that it's pretty much a haven for hippies, artists, magicians and liberal and alternative folks of all stripes. There's a number of solar homes and communes surrounding the city off in the hills, and it has a police force of about 9 people (including the sherriff and three meter maids). There's a writer's colony there where you can rent a cabin for, say, a month, and eat dinner with other writers every night in this giant pot-luck thing. Besides the huge tourist industry, it's not necessarily...tacky, like a place like Silver Dollar City. (
toob might disagree with me on this.)
Anyway, we went to a local dive bar (whose name I still can't remember) with good friend
tangpau and ate at the Local Flavor Cafe. I nearly beat Silver at 301 right after he completely destroyed me in the first game, but we got too distracted after a while. (A rum and coke that could kill a horse followed by a Long Island Iced Tea will do that to you.) It's really a beautiful place, this Eureka Springs. I'm in love with it. :)
For some reason, it made Monday at work all the more depressing. ;)
I have a lot to talk about, but as usual, there's no time. I would like to discuss my views on existentialism, and Zen Buddhism, and totemism/animism at some point though. They'll be very long spazzes, though, so I guess that'll have to wait for the weekend, if, you know, ever.
For now, work.
